If you ever thought your little child didn’t know anything about your profession, you are wrong! JJ had an itchy spot on his calf this evening. He finally dozed off in his bed and was fast asleep. Close to midnight I feel a tiny hand shake me awake and say, “The skin is very itchy and it is irritating me. I think I need to sleep next to a doctor and a dentist”. He climbed into bed and plonked himself right next to us. Road trips – you end up where you started!But this 1557 km journey from Vellore to Karur, Munnar, Kumarakom, Kumily, Thekkad, Vandanmedu and back gave us enough memories to last a lifetime. Thank God for an amazing time and safety! This is our first major road trip ever since we returned from OZ and even though the drive was very different, the scenery was just as spectacular as Australia or New Zealand!

J’s favorite activity after a busy Sunday school at church is train watching. The drive back from church takes us across a railway crossing and he must be the only person who gets upset if the gates are open and we make a quick crossing. He loves it if there is a delay and he gets to watch a couple of trains toot and zip across the crossing. Even though it can mean a 15 minute delay, we have grown to love this time.I sometimes wonder if I tend to miss out on the simple pleasures of life by quickly zipping through life and not pausing to watch something as innocuous as a train thundering past. Every now and then someone pops a word at you that simply sticks in your head and makes you think. Nice birthday – parents and parents-in-law at home, buffet dinner yesterday, special cake, plenty of phonecalls, FB messages, orkut scraps, SMS… and then… lone pediatrician at the hospital, 50 patients in OPD, 5 kids with seizures, a twin delivery, acting anesthetist for an ortho procedure, on call, 2 kids post-op and 2 kids planned for surgery…. loving it! It can’t get more exciting, right!

Every time I need to choose a Christian gift item i either have to go to the local Christian store here or order it by ebay from the US and ship it. I’ve always hoped that I could find a store right here in India with the kind of gifts I find on ebay but not have to wait for it to be shipped from the US with expensive shipping costs.
