Fun @ the exhibition

Beckys parents were visiting us for a few days and it was amazing to have them around pampering us with food and stuff. I was on call, but that did not hamper the excitement except for the few times I had to scamper off for C-section calls and emergencies. 30th June was our 1 month wedding anniversary (if there is such a thing) and we all decided to go to an exhibition on the outskirts of Trichy. I was a little worried as I was on call and we prayed that I wouldnt have to rush back. And wow! Did we have fun @ the exchibition. The stalls were crowded and there was some great good. We especially enjoyed the lime…

The drive – Part II

Today is Good Friday. It meant that I only had to do rounds and wait for emergencies if any. I did that. But I didnt do what I should have done – I didnt go to church today. OK I can give you pretty acceptable excuses – I was on call, there were 4 cases in casualty (3 at 10 AM and one at 12 noon) which would have meant that I would have had to scurry back from church, I was tired etc etc. B ut I wonder whether that suffices.Yesterday I rediscovered my drive to learn driving …. and today I discovered that my “drive” to go to church seems to be at an all time low. Part…

The drive

You’re gonna laugh at me, but I still dont have a drivers license for a 4-wheeler and can hardly drive a car! I’d enrolled for driving classes about 4 months ago but stopped after 2 classes – lazy bum with a million excuses. Finally I was inspired by the fact that Becky was touching up her driving skills at home (she already had a license) . I called up the guy and in the hot afternoon sun I finally restarted my driving classes! It felt a little weird and at times I was all over the road, but at least I seem to have started again! Hope th Drive lasts longer and I can get my license!

The number game

1+1 = 2This is is just to show you that by mid-day I had 1 patient in the paediatric ward and 1 patient in the nursery. This is the lowest census I have ever had and it is worrisome. The wards need to fill up soon and I’m trying as hard as possible to do that! 48Thats the total number of children I saw in OPD today. Paradoxically that’s one of the highest i have ever seen!! Guess the inpatient and the outpatient numbers dont relate! 16That was the number of idlis I discovered in my dinner carrier after I picked it up from the mess and opened it up in my room. The normal number of idlis I eat…

Three minutes with Becky!

The day started off fine with very lazy rounds and just as I was bout to pick up my lunch Sandeep called me and went off to his house and hogged on great rice and chicken with ice cream. But that wasnt the best part of the day!I then managed to sleep well in the afternoon and felt very refreshed. No calls to disturb me.But that wasnt the best part of the day!Had a long chat with Joyce who was leaving Vellore and was working on her US visa to start off with John Hopkins and get married. We discussed CMC, gowns, wedding etc etc!But that wasnt the best part of the day! Also had a loooooong talk with Becky as she…

Before and after

Yup…. I did it!! I shaved the growth on my face today as I felt it would regrow more densely and more uniformly. My facial hair has a vague pattern – it grows as a moustache and then as a stubble on my chin and there’s no connection between the two! It kinda looks unique and pretty cool I think (and Becky loves it). I’m hoping that shaving it will help it grow better. It felt weird seeing myself shaved and clean in the mirror as its been about 3 months since I did it. here are pics for you to compare and comment!

My Valentine!

There’s no way I can actually make a post about what all I did for Becky today. Even a guy like me can actually do some romantic stuff and it all fell in place in an amazing way. Even though we were more than 300 kilometers away, she loved it and that was more than what I could have hoped for…. and here’s my verdict – Expressing your love does not always need expensive gifts and intimate physical closeness; 300 Km away and not even 20$ was all it took to sweep my valentine off her feet!! And as you can guess the flowers on the right were just a small part of what I gave Becky today!!

ECNR to Dubai!

So we got up early and piled into the Temp Traveller to drop off S at the airport. She said goodbye and then pushed the trolley alone to the counter while we craned our heads to keep seeing her. Then almost like in slow motion we saw her being sent off from the counter and walking towards us. Our hearts sank as she told us that there was an ECNR stamp missing and hence she wasnt allowed to leave! This couldnt be happening!!! We desperately prayed and tried everything to try to bypass this procedure, but it wasnt possible. The only way was for her to miss her flight and goto the ECNR office and get the job done. We…

And now…. my turn to surprise

Finally a plan fell into my mind and I managed to leave Vellore by 8.30 AM and reach Chennai by 12 noon. After a quick lunch I planned to goto Beckys clinic and surprise her!! S and J offered to drop me as they were going to visit his sister close to Beckys house. Halfway through the journey Becky seemed to get a whiff of the surprise but S and J managed to quickly adapt the plan and they said they were coming to see her on the way. I kept calling and pretending I had just left to Chennai. I got off on the street before her house and J and S went in to see her. She was…

Leaving…..

Another day… and I had to say bye to Becky. J and S dropped us off at her home and then went away to visit J’s sister and that left Becky and me together with her cousins etc. We spent some quality time together. I’m realising how precious Becky is to me! J, S, Becky and I then did a quick regrouping at Coffee Day before I finally had to re-drop her off at home and then tuck myself into the car alone in the back seat and get back home. That familiar lump in my throat and emotions rushed in again……
