My Five Favorite Versions Of Christmas Hallelujah
The original ‘Hallelujah’ by Cohen was musically brilliant and has a deep, but somewhat confusing story behind it. A rather lesser known band called Cloverton rewrote the lyrics to make it a Christmas story and thus was born Christmas Hallelujah. It’s one of my favourite Christmas songs – the mix of amazing music, song writing and lyrics results in a musical story that gives goosebumps. Here are my five favorite versions of the song. I’m starting with my most favorite version. 1. Kaylee Rodgers and the Killard House School choirIt’s hard to believe that a shy little girl with autism and ADHD could deliver the best version of this song along with a choir of special children from the Killard…
How to meet THE SUPEREST HERO
It’s called many things – The Message, The Sermon, Sharing God’s Word, Preaching, etc. I was asked to do this during the Sunday School Christmas program. After coming up with many excuses, the ultimate excuse came when I started developing a painful mouth ulcer on the lateral margin a week before the due date. Having dealt with bad throats and coughs on the weeks I lead worship (which always miraculously stopped on Sunday) I accepted Gladwins challenge and God promise of healing and plunged into preparing a message. It was difficulter than I expected to get the flow, even after the thoughts and topic were finalised. Since the children were using a Superhero theme on most of their programs, I…
Giver of Life
Its not always that a Sunday School / VBS song gets chosen as the key song in a worship set, but ever since I heard the children sing this at our Church Retreat, it stuck in my head and I decided to take up the task of building a worship session around this song. We decided to let the children ‘lead’ this song by singing and doing the actions with us. I often feel that we ignore children during times of ‘worship’ at Church. God laid it upon my heart to let the Church know that the children are just as capable of worshiping during the time of singing at Church. I also wanted to let the Church know that…
Tremble – Worship @ Church
To cut to the chase, I had built the worship set today around the song “Tremble”. I had the usual hurdles before I reached church – stringing together the medley was not easy, only Surina was available to help and the weather was rainy and gloomy. I thought that the worship session would be the calm through all this. I wasn’t prepared for the tremors that shook me before the beginning of the service. I first discovered that the key to the mixer was not available – but that was an easy fix and Neelavenan Annan found it for us. As JJ and I set up the mixer and microphones we hit the next major hurdle. With just twenty minutes…
Here’s My Heart Lord – Worship on 21st July
I led worship this Sunday at Church. I just loved how all the songs fell in place. I had listened to the theme song “Here’s My Heart” by I Am They more than a year ago and loved it. I somehow knew it would make it to a worship set one day and this was the chosen Sunday! With the theme revolving around HEART, ‘Open the Eyes of My Heart’ was a natural opener. The fun part came when I took Anaya to the park with lots of swings and slides and hoops, etc and watched her run all around happy. The Sunday School song ‘Happy All the Time’ kept playing in my head and as I sat down to…
MIGHTY – Leading Worship in Church
As we were struggling to find a worship leader for today, I decided on Saturday to finally volunteer even though I was a little unwell with a sore throat and cough. After committing myself for the task, I told God ‘I promise you God that this illness will not get in the way of me leading worship’. God replied, ‘That’s not your job Benji. Its my job to promise you that your sore throat and cough will not get in the way of worship at Church this Sunday’. Our MIGHTY God kept that promise and we could dwell on the mightiness of God through this time of worship. There is no-one like our God. He is so big, so strong…
Your Kingdom Come, Your will be done
Today was a positive, interesting time leading worship at Church. The Gang With summer vacation, it was difficult to find people to help. D offered to help – she had just started helping with the worship team a week ago. J had also texted saying she will practice and join on Sunday. K was a little unsure. After a little texting PM said she could do sound mixing. So I texted the final song list and was just doing a solo practice at home on Sunday evening, when GK called and said he’ll drop in at home for a brief run through and also catch J for the practice. We had a good practice. Somewhere in the middle, GK also…
End of the beginning
The worship today (Good Friday) at church was led by Surina. It was a lovely time with lots of poignant thoughts shared during the session. The worship session was titled ”nd of the beginning’ and ended with the rendition of the song by David Phelps. It’s been a while since I heard a ‘story song’ and it came out powerfully. I’ll leave you with what Surina shared about the worship session and the song and the song itself.“Jesus exposed the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. So the Jews thought that if they killed Jesus it would end their problems. Satan was engineering the same thing; if only he could keep Jesus in the grave God’s plan of salvation may be sabotaged….
The One who holds the stars
Today I had the joy of leading worship in Church. I was led to use a theme which hinged on a song by Skillet called ‘Stars’. This may not be a standard choice for most worship sessions, but I loved how God moved to put things together to create a fruitful time of worship at Church. “The One who holds the stars”When we look at all the wonderful things God has created, it is wonderful that we can respond to them by worshipping Him. It blows my mind away that our God is powerful enough to create mountains and flowers and hold each star in place perfectly. It is even more amazing that this awesome God cares so much more…
